WALNUT, Miss. — A man is in critical condition after being shot by Mississippi Highway Patrol officers.

According to a statement from Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, one 45-year-old man was involved in “an exchange of weapons’ fire” as police responded to a call near Walnut, Mississippi.

The AG’s office wouldn’t say what led to the shooting, but multiple people say the suspect ran roadblock before leading troopers on a chase down Highway 354.

They said the suspect and a woman eventually bailed after reaching a construction roadblock on Commerce Street near Highway 15.

WREG was told that troopers chased the suspects into the woods behind a home, where there was an exchange of gunfire and the man was injured.

The New Albany Police Department has been assigned to investigate, along with the attorney general’s office.

Neither the victim nor the officers involved was identified.
