Oxford, MS man arrested, charged with rape

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested and accused of rape after an incident in Oxford, Mississippi last week, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 29, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit was notified about a reported sexual assault from Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.


The sheriff’s office says an investigation regarding the alleged assault was opened.

After completing the investigation, an arrest warrant on the charge of Rape-Assault was issued for 47-year-old Cory Lemond Smith of Oxford, Miss.

Smith reportedly turned himself into the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office on May 31.

He is being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center where his bond has been set at $100,000.
