MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A massive fire overnight destroyed one longtime Midtown business and damaged another.

The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Memphis Fire Department said the fire started in the rear of Happy Day Laundry & Cleaners at Union Avenue and Rozelle Street.

The fire then spread to Sean’s Smooth Moves Cafe.

Flames were coming through the roof when firefighters arrived.

The situation was dangerous enough that commanders ordered firefighters to stay out of the building and use aerial ladders to fire the flames.

Firefighters and police also shut down Union Avenue.

It took more than an hour to bring the fire under control.

There are no reports of any injuries.

There are smoke and fire damage at Happy Day.

This is the second fire at Sean’s Cafe.

A fire June 28 caused heavy damage to business.

WREG learned 40 to 50 people have lost their jobs because of the fire.
