MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Two Millington police officers were rushed to the hospital after being run over by a car early Monday morning.
According to the Millington Police Department, the officers pulled over 24-year-old Oscar Maldonado for speeding shortly after 6 a.m. Monday morning on Veterans Parkway near Dakar. The suspect reportedly refused to comply with officers when they asked for his information.
That’s when he reportedly took off, running over both officers.
After they were hit, they were able to call for help.
Several other officers spotted the suspect about a mile away and were able to take him into custody after boxing him in before he got to Highway 51.
“He was stopped within two minutes of the initial incident.” Chief Mark Dunbar said.
He says the suspect resisted again. But this time, no one was hurt.
As for the officers, police said both of them were run over and have a leg and foot injuries. They also sustained bruising, cuts, and road rash.
“Both of them, if my information is correct, both officers feet and legs were hit. One of them was actually run over by a tire, and thankfully it was just his foot,” Chief Dunbar said.
They were both transported to Methodist North to be treated for cuts, bruises and road rash.
Their identities have also not been released.
The chief says, when it comes to incidents like this, you hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
“I was able to make the scene pretty quick and lay eyes on them before they were transported to the hospital, so it was good for that part and how,” he said.
Maldonado was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, evading arrest, resisting arrest and speeding.
A mugshot for the suspect has not been released.
