MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Millington Chief of Police Arthur Heun has resigned, a city alderman confirmed to WREG.

Heun has not been chief for long. The city’s previous chief, Frank Tennant, resigned in September 2015 in the midst of a scandal involving missing money.

However, Heun’s resignation is not related to the missing money but rather an inability to make the improvements the city wanted the department to make, the alderman said.

His leaving “was going to happen either way,” the alderman said.

Heun said his last day will be Friday.

The Millington city manager will discuss at a meeting Monday how the city and police department will move forward.

Heun released the following statement:

While my time here has been short, it is time for my tenure with the Millington Police Department to end. I have enjoyed getting to know all of you and wish you the best.

Thanks for all you have done to make my time here a pleasure.

Before coming to Millington, Heun spent 27 years with various departments, including the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Olive Branch Police and Dyersburg Police.
