BROOKHAVEN, Miss. — Two Mississippi police officers were killed in the line of duty early Saturday morning.
According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, Corporal Zack Moak and Patrolman James White were killed in a shootout with a suspect around 5 a.m. Saturday.
The Brookhaven officers were called to the 600 block of North 6th Street after reports of shots being fired. When they arrived they exchanged gunfire with a suspect. That suspect was identified by police as 25-year-old Marquis Flowers.
All three were injured and rushed to a local hospital. That’s where the officers were pronounced deceased.
The suspect is being treated before being taken into custody.
