BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. – Spice, a synthetic marijuana, is taking over the state of Mississippi.
In just a week’s time, Spice instantly killed two people in Hancock County and sent one woman to the hospital.
On Monday, the Metro Narcotics Task Force made a “major bust” in Hattiesburg that sent two men to the county jail in handcuffs.
Then earlier last week, another spice user was also rushed to the ER.
It’s just the latest in a growing trend of Spice use in the state.
According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, Spice is a “dangerous blend of herbs and artificial stimulants” that is said to be similar to marijuana.
However, it is even more powerful than its counterpart.
According to the department, since April 2, 317 people have been rushed to the hospital after taking it.
The problem with the drug, the department said, is the fact the product contains unregulated and unpredictable chemicals that can cause hyperactivity, seizures, intense hallucinations, coma and even death.
Spice is also known as K2, Mojo, Skunk, Spice Diamond, Moon rocks and Yucatan Fire.
If someone shows signs of spice use, call the Mississippi Poison Control Center at 800-222-1222.
If you need medical help, call 911.
