Mississippi woman sues Goldfish cracker makers over illness

COLUMBUS, Miss. — A federal lawsuit charges that a Mississippi woman survived a life-threatening case of salmonella after eating Goldfish crackers.

The Clarion Ledger reported Friday that 26-year-old Bailey Finch is suing Pepperidge Farm and one of its manufacturers that provided contaminated possible contaminated whey powder. The lawsuit accuses the companies of negligence. It seeks compensatory and punitive damages for medical costs and pain.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a recall last month for some Goldfish flavors that were possibly contaminated. But Finch says the recall was too late to prevent her illness. Pepperidge Farm says on its website that no illnesses have been reported related to the salmonella scare. They have said that consumers who purchased the recalled flavors should discard the product or return it for a refund.
