MISSOURI — A Senator from Missouri will be taking a leave of absence as she undergoes treatment for cancer.
On Monday, Senator Claire McCaskill confirmed she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer after her yearly mammogram.
“It’s a little scary,” she wrote. “But my prognosis is good and I expect a full recovery.”
For the next three weeks, the senator will be in St. Louis undergoing treatment, but that won’t keep her from voicing her opinion.
“I will be posting on my Senate website how I would have voted on any matters that come before the Senate during my absence—which I’ll also enter into the Congressional record. Additionally, I’ll be submitting questions in writing for any missed Senate hearings,” she said.
After the announcement was made, other lawmakers quickly began showing their support.
