SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — While the worst of the weather may be over, some utility crews said the coast isn’t clear just yet.
MLGW said there weren’t very many people without power Friday.
“We did have a few outages this morning,” said MLGW spokeswoman Gale Jones Carson.
It didn’t last long though.
MLGW crews expected outages with the winter weather so they were ready to roll early Friday morning.
As soon as they heard about an outage, they fanned out to fix lines and broken equipment.
They worked in Whitehaven, Lakeland and Brunswick.
There was also a power outage near the intersection of Germantown and Farmington.
Crews said the problem took longer to fix since the problem was underground.
Surrounding businesses were out of power for hours.
Unfortunately, MLGW’s work isn’t over just yet.
The utility company will continue to monitor the weather since so many trees and lines are covered in ice. Plus, there’s wind.
It’s not a good combination.
“Should some of the precipitation turn to ice and ice up our lines, there is a possibility that will cause problems with our service,” said Jones Carson.
