MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s going to be a long, hot weekend, but for some people it’s going to be even worse.
As of 5 p.m. Friday, a little more than 5,200 customers were without power.
MLGW said at one point there were more than 67,000 customers in the dark after a storm rolled through the Mid-South on Wednesday.
Gale Jones Carson with MLGW said Friday the company hopes to have the lights back on for everyone by late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
She said Friday’s storm will not affect customer wait times.
“Clearly watch TV, be on the Internet, just have electricity. Having the lights on when you go to the bathroom.”
Those are just some of the things Brenton Hu misses. Power to his Cordova home off Sanga Road has been out since the destructive storm hit earlier this week. His family is dealing with the aftermath.
“It’s really hot,” he said. “No fans, no nothing, no AC, it’s just hot.”
It is so hot inside that WREG caught his next door neighbor outside. The neighbor said the heat made being inside unbearable.
“We can’t stay inside, it’s too hot,” the man said.
He was on his way to a hotel.
“We can’t spend the night here.”
“We have crews in from as close as Jackson, Tennessee, and as far as the eastern part of Tennessee and Kentucky,” Carson said.
She said there are 30 crews out making repairs.
“What we’ve done is try to get the biggest number of customers out, get their services on the quickest,” she said.
Carson said places that were hit hard were Shelby Forrest and Cordova. For 16-year-old Hu, he said he’ll be oaky dealing with the hot temperatures. He said it’s the elderly and children that have him concerned.
“Their body’s not used to it so it’s just difficult for them.”
