(Nashville) A federal court has permanently banned two employees of a Mo’ Money tax franchise from preparing taxes.  Toney Fields and Trumekia Shaw are from Memphis.  The couple ran Fields Mo’ Money in Nashville.

A federal judge signed the order Friday.  Attorneys for the government say their investigation revealed Fields and Shaw repeatedly engaged in fraudulent conduct.

According to the complaint, the two would illegally prepare taxes off of customers’ year end pay stubs rather than W2s. Attorneys say Fields and Shaw claimed improper credits usually related the Earned Income Tax Credit and child tax credits.

The government estimates the fraudulent practices cost them roughly $5 million.
