MEMPHIS, Tenn. — “Very sore. I’ve got severe swelling on my hipbone, on my kneecaps and fluid in my knees,” said Tiffany Smith.
The bruises and scrapes remind Smith she had a close call this weekend.
She was walking to the store with her 8-year-old son, Johnathan, when she said her father-in-law drove up next to them and hit her.
The impact knocked her on top of the young boy.
It sounds scary but Smith said it was even worse because Johnathan is deaf.
“He has magnets in both sides of his head due to him being deaf and if he would’ve landed a certain way it would’ve killed him instantly,” she told WREG.
Police said Tiffany’s father-in-law, Kevin Smith, was at the wheel.
Tiffany said her ex-husband was also in the car and wanted to take Johnathan, but Tiffany refused.
That’s when she said Smith ran his car into them.
“I wasn’t even expecting it at all. It just happened,” she said.
Police arrested Smith shortly after the crash.
Tiffany was just thankful her son was okay.
“That baby is my whole world,” she said.
Kevin Smith is set to be in court July 2.
