(Memphis) A mother and her 12-year-old son are in jail, accused of working together on a crime.
Police say Carmalena Conway used her young son to burglarize a house in Raleigh.
Police say the mother used her son to do the dirty work and she drove the getaway car.
Conway is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a child.
Police say she drove her 12-year-old son to q home on Kerwin Drive, then waited in the car while the 12-year-old climbed through a window.
Court records show the son stole stuff from house, including a pair shoes, an iPad, ten purses and $1,500 worth of clothes.
“I’ve been messed up about it but there isn’t anything I can do,” said the victim, who doesn’t want to be identified.
Police say Conway watched and waited until her son loaded all the stolen stuff in her car before they drove off.
After an investigation, prosecutors charged both of them with aggravated burglary.
We stopped by Conway’s house, which is also in Raleigh.
“We are reporting on Miss Conway. Is she your wife or girlfriend?” asked reporter Sabrina Hall.
We talked to Conway’s boyfriend through the window, only briefly.
“What did you hear happened?” asked Hall.
“I don’t know. You can talk to my lawyer,” said the boyfriend
Police say Conway and her 12-year-old son are being investigated for other burglaries in the area.
“I can believe that because I heard something about that. It`s a little young boy, no more than 11 or 12 years old. He’s been doing stuff like that,” said the victim.
The victim says police have been able to return most of his family’s stolen stuff.
He’s still surprised a mother would team up with her own young son to target his house.
“Unbelievable,” he said. “Not a good example at all.”
While the 12-year-old is going through the juvenile system, Conway is being held in the adult women’s facility on a $25,000 bond.
