MEMPHIS, TN- A mother and her teenage son were convicted in the brutal beating and attempted murder of a Memphis father.

These convictions come nearly three years after the man was severely beaten with a metal baseball over a parking spot.

“Just die in prison. I don`t want her to come out no time soon,” said Mariem Sy, the victim’s daughter.

Sy says Tanya Wilkins’ conviction to her part in the brutal beating of Sy’s dad is only a little relief.

“It’s emotional, it still hurts to see my daddy going through this,” said Sy.

In April of 2012, Sy’s father, Alassane Sy, and Wilkins got into an argument over a parking spot outside a Whitehaven convenience store. Wilkins convinced her son, Mariquez Moore, to beat Allasane Sy with a metal baseball bat. Surveillance video captured the then 15-year-old pummeling the father with the weapon.

Sy survived the beating. But the now 69-year-old can barely communicate with his wife and children. He`s in a nursing home outside Nashville.

“He`s losing his life. He`s fighting for his life the best way he can,” said Sy.

The family is fighting too. Losing Alassane Sy at home makes it rough on everyone.

“We had to give up the house because my family couldn`t afford it,” said Sy.

Earlier this month, Moore pleaded guilty to attempted first degree murder. The teen will spend the next 20 years of his life behind bars.

Moore`s mother, Tanya Wilkins, faces 18 years in prison. The Sy family hopes she stays locked up for a very long time, saying a long sentence would give Alassane Sy a little more justice.

“It`s still kind of hard to survive without him,” said Sy.

Wilkins will be sentenced late February.
