(Memphis) A heartbroken mother opened up about her son, who was hit by a car, and and the person who did it that took off and didn’t stop to help.
The accident happened Thursday morning on Orleans Street outside Lincoln Elementary.
Olivia Williams said her son was dropped off by the daycare van and was headed to class when he realized he had dropped his lunch money in the road.
When he went back to pick it up, he was under the car before he knew it.
“He said he threw his hands up and was hitting the car,” said Williams.
Carl Williams is now in the hospital with a broken leg, broken nose, teeth missing from his mouth and fractures in his face, but the 10-year old is not the only one in pain.
Olivia can’t understand why the driver who hit her son didn’t stop and didn’t care.
“They kept going. They didn’t come back to the school or anything. They just left him there.”
Olivia says three of her daughters, who also go to Lincoln Elementary, saw it all happen; saw a car flip an illegal U-turn on Orleans Street and slam into Carl.
“Yeah, they saw it. They were tore up. They were tore up.”
Police say they still don’t know who hit Carl and drove away, but witnesses say whoever it was had dropped off children at the elementary school.
“It’s somebody’s parent that goes to Lincoln.”
It makes the hit and run that much more disturbing.
Carl will now have a late start to his fifth grade school year, but Olivia is thanking God he’s alive.
She just wants the person who hit him to do the right thing.
“I am quite sure you have kids just like I have kids and I feel you should have a conscious, at least to get out the car to see if my son is OK.”
Since the driver didn’t do that, police are looking out for the person’s car: a silver Nissan Ultima.
