MEMPHIS, Tenn. — When tragedy strikes, you turn to family, and that’s exactly what Erica Morales’ family is doing. Sunday night, they held a candlelight vigil, but more than anything, they held on to each other. WREG was there, and the images from the emotional gathering are making their way around the world.
Mary White, one of Morales’ family members, said, “It means so much. So much, that out of this tragedy, people can pull together and show it’s going to be alright.”
White can’t believe all the help the family has seen pour in from strangers. More than 3,000 people have donated upwards of $100,000 in just three days.
Lenoice White told another family member, “It really does help, and we want to thank everybody for that.”
More than anything, they’re amazed by the loving comments that are coming in through social media.
“They never met Erica, but they’ve been touched by this tragedy.”
Erica’s family will tell you she was so excited to be a mother. She only asked for one baby, but was blessed with four. Sadly, she never even got to hold them before she died, just hours after giving birth.
Now babies Tracy, Paisley, Erica, and Carlos, Jr., are gaining strength before they go home with their dad. Family says this money coming in will help them buy everything they need for these growing babies, but nothing will replace their mom.
LaTonya Rogers said, “She was loved. It was her spirit. She had a lovely spirit about herself.”
Rogers says she will never forget her cousin, and can’t wait to tell the babies all about their amazing mother.
