Memphis, Tenn. — Memphis Police are investigating two hit-and-run accidents that left motorcyclists dead Sunday morning.
Police say the first accident happened just after 12:30 a.m. on I-240/I-55. The 52-year-old driver was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene afterwards.
The driver was pronounced dead on the scene. He’s been identified as Dwayne Mcmahon of Snellville, Georgia.
The interstate was briefly shut down because of the accident.
Police say another hit-and-run accident happened at 3:30 a.m. on Covington Pike, north of Raleigh LaGrange.
Two men in a Ford F-150 reportedly struck a motorcyclist and fled the scene on foot.
The victim, 29-year-old Landy Tarrance Jr., was pronounced dead on the scene.
Keith Thomas, who sells newspapers every weekend at the intersection, says he saw the scene when he arrived.
“Don’t just drive and hit somebody. Stop and check on them. You never know, that could be you . You wouldn’t want anybody doing you like that.”
On Mother’s Day, Tarrance’s family is still trying to process his loss and what exactly happened.
They say he was leaving a sports bar, trying to make it back home to his wife and four children.
They told us he often drove his motorcycle, but was always cautious about speeding.
Police are looking for the two men responsible for hitting Tarrance and taking off on foot.
They describe them as two Hispanic males.
Anyone with information about either hit-and-runs is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
