MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police said they are on the hunt for whoever shot a 14-year-old girl while she was sitting in the living room of a Hickory Hills home.
It happened in the 3400 block of Clearbrook Road.
On Thursday, police said her condition had improved to stable after she was taken to LeBoneur around 11 Wednesday night in critical condition.
Neighbors WREG talked to Thursday were rattled this happened on their street.
“It’s just sad to hear that baby got shot,” said Eli Williams.
He said the glow of police lights and the crime scene tape roping off the neighborhood was not something you tend to see on his street.
“We ain’t never had no problems. Never had a call or nothing like that over there,” he said.
Thursday you can see the bullet holes that sliced through the windows and garage of the home.
Police said five people were in the living room when the trigger was pulled, but the 14-year-old girl was the only one hit.
“Everyone was outside, neighbors and everything and the girl was getting pulled out on the stretcher,” said neighbor Mackyla Bynum.
Bynum said she’s seen the victim a few times but doesn’t know her well.
However the news of what happened scared her and she wanted nothing more than to leave but couldn’t.
“Police blocked off the whole street, no one could come in or out,” she explained.
Police didn’t know the number of suspects involved or whether or not they were in a car at the time.
The case resembles one WREG told you about back in April when 15-year-old Cateria Stokes was fatally shot while sleeping in her bed.
Her killer, still hasn’t been caught.
Williams said these shooting need to send a message that the violence needs to stop.
“We just gotta keep praying and keep hoping to try to stay peaceful,” he said.
Police said right now they don’t know of a motive for the shooting or who was the intended target.
