EARLIER:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people were killed and a woman was injured in two separate shootings in the same neighborhood in Fox Meadows that happened hours apart.

“I was in Family Dollar and when I stepped out the door the shooting was going on,” said one anonymous witness.

Officers were called to the gas station at the corner of Knight Arnold and Mendenhall around 10 p.m. Wednesday after reports of shots being fired. One victim was located in the 5300 block of Knight Arnold while the second was located down the street. Both were pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities have not identified the deceased, but several people on the scene said the victims were well known, with one individual saying one of the victims had lived in the area his entire life.

One woman even said she believed he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“I think he was on a good path,” she said. “He just got caught up in a suspicious gunfire.”

Several hours later, police returned to the neighborhood after receiving another report of shots fired right across the street from the first scene. Authorities said a woman’s vehicle was struck by gunfire and she was injured by the broken glass. She is expected to be okay, police said.
