MPD: 2 shot, one fatally in Northeast Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are investigating a double-shooting in Northeast Memphis Sunday afternoon.

MPD said officers responded to a shooting at 2277 Eveningview Dr. When they arrived, they found two victims sustaining gunshot wounds. One victim has been pronounced deceased; one victim is in critical condition.

One neighbor told WREG-TV he heard what he believes to be the gunshots but said they happen so often, he thought nothing of it until he saw flashing blue lights.

“You know, you don’t really pay attention to it in the moment, but it turned out to be gunshots,” Jared Travis, a resident in the area, said.

Travis is like many other fathers in the neighborhood is trying to provide a safe environment for his family. But, after learning of Sunday’s shooting just a few houses down, he is thinking about his next move before it is too late.

Travis said, sadly, violence in this community is common. Only after a few months of living in the neighborhood, he invested in additional security measures to protect his loved ones.

“Down this way is cool but as you get down there more, that’s really where you find stuff happening like cars being broken into and gunshots,” Travis said.

Police spent hours on the scene, searching for witnesses and clues with their focus primarily on this grey pickup truck – a possible piece to this puzzle.

The suspect responsible is possibly a male White with long blonde hair who was wearing a dark colored hoodie, MPD said.

MPD said this is an ongoing investigation.
