MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police are investigating another teen mob attack.
This time, they climbed on cars in Midtown, smashed roofs and broke windows.
As many as thirty teens are said to be involved.
Seven teens were given summons for breaking curfew, but those who did the damage are on the run.
Police said the teens got out of a Sweet Sixteen party at The Renaissance event venue around 11 Friday night, piled into the street and swarmed a couple of cars.
“Just ridiculous that it happened,” said Matthew Edwards, who was managing The P & H Cafe when a panicked customer ran inside., “And said somebody was jumping on a car out front.”
Edwards’ coworker called the cops while the teens raged on apparently jumping on top of the cars and bashing the windows.
One victim told WREG he was disturbed about the whole thing. He sent pictures of his car roof caved in.
“A few cars down, they jumped on another smashing the back windshield, and the roof of the car,” said Edwards.
Police are looking for the rest of the group. MPD has cameras posted on the street.
In the meantime, folks who shop and live nearby admit they are watching their backs.
“We try to always be aware of what’s going on around us, so yeah, we do things differently, but we’re not going to stay out of this community, because some kids are out of control,” said Rick White who lives in Midtown.
No one with The Renaissance would go on camera, but the owner told WREG on the phone parents and security guards were chaperoning the event.
He thinks the teens who vandalized the car came from somewhere else.
