MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police have identified the suspect they say was involved in a barricade situation in Frayser on Friday.
MPD said Robert Patillo was taken in to custody late Friday night after a standoff with police that lasted about 15 hours.
Police said they were attempting to pick up a homicide suspect in the 2800 block of Raja Drive, the Breezy Point apartments. Three people were detained at the scene, but one person was holed up in a residence.
Authorities set up a perimeter around the area of Steele and Roosevelt. Police negotiators made the scene.
After about 15 hours, MPD said Patillo was taken into custody without incident.
“We were able to take the suspect into custody without incident. He has been transported to 170 North Main,” said Louis Brownlee, of the Memphis Police Department.
In a police report, detectives say Patillo played a part in a shooting along S. Third and Western Park, where dozens of rounds were fired. A man was fatally shot.
Caught in the hail of gunfire was another man, a woman and a child and fortunately, they all survived. One of the victim’s identified Patillo as someone who opened fire last month.
Detectives were determined to to get him off the streets, regardless of how long it took.
“Memphis Police showed restraint, we showed patience. We were able to wait him out, in order to take the suspect into custody without incident,” Brownlee said.
We have learned because of potential danger multiple families living inside the complex were evacuated, while others were asked to shelter in place, until the coast was clear.
Even Patillo’s grandmother showed up, pleading for him to do the right thing/
” I love him, and I don’t want nothing to happen to him.. and I’m his grandmother we kind of have a close bond, and I just want him to come on out, please just bring yourself on out,” said Kathy Patillo, suspect’s grandmother.
After nearly 16 hours, negotiators finally were able to safely coax him out.
Patillo faces serious charges which include murder and reckless endangerment when he goes before a judge on Monday. He is being held on a $200,000 bond.
