MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are investigating two separate shots fired incidents within a mile and a half of each other Saturday.
“We have private security in our neighborhood, and we hear things everyday, so it’s Memphis,” said Rhod Lauch, who lives nearby.
Folks who live close to Oak Court Mall said it is scary but also not completely unexpected.
Shortly after noon on Saturday, MPD recovered 15 spent casings from the parking lot near Macys.
Officers also found a Nissan Maxima parked and running.
“That’s disconcerting. We live just down the street,” said Memphis resident Lou Hoover.
A witness saw a man dressed in all black run from the area and get in a silver car, going up the parking ramp.
Another witness saw a blue car with four men inside pull up, reportedly looking for the suspect that was shooting.
Less than 10 minutes later, and only about a mile and A half away, police responded to another shots fired call at Poplar and Redbird.
The victim told them he was leaving the parking garage near Dillards, and people in a blue car reportedly watched him leave.
He said they headed west on Poplar, their car in front of his.
He said the suspects’ car turned north on Redbird and someone inside fired gunshots out the rear passenger window, striking his car three times.
The victim was not hurt, but told WREG he did not want to talk about what happened.
Oak Court Mall would only tell WREG it is working closely with police and it maintains a zero tolerance policy for violence.
WREG confirmed Memphis Police are investigating yet another case at Oak Court Mall from Saturday. This one was a fight at a food counter.
