MPD Lt. accused of embezzlement retires

MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  The Memphis Police Department has confirmed that Mike McCord, the officer under investigation for embezzlement, has retired.

In February, WREG reported that the Memphis Police Department was investigating Lt. McCord.

This was not the first time he has been in trouble either.

McCord, who has been with MPD since 1990, has a thick personnel file that shows several investigations.

In May of 2007, the department suspended him over a police brutality complaint after a police brutality complaint at the Nappi by Nature hair salon in South Memphis.

Two months later, he was fired for a separate reason.

His personnel file shows he lied about an officer being in court when he wasn’t really there.

He wasn’t unemployed for long though.

That October, Millington Police hired him.

He only worked there for a few months because the Memphis Civil Services Commission gave him his job back.
