MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was charged with criminal impersonation and kidnapping for reportedly acting like a police officer and robbing a man.

Police arrested DeMarcus McPherson, 25, Monday, a day after the robbery happened.

The police report said two men, dressed in vests that said ‘Police’ and carrying guns, pulled a man over.

The suspects were driving a white dodge Charger decked out like a police car.

It had a black bumper bar, a driver side spot light, transport cage, grey plastic seats in the back and red lights on the inside.

The victim told police the men pulled him over and told him he had a warrant for unpaid fines and child support.

The men took the victim’s money, license and phone after putting him handcuffed into the backseat of the car.

They let him go a short ways away and took off.

Police developed McPherson as a suspect and found him at his apartment on Hickory Meadow.

Officers found the white Dodge Charger with marijuana inside.

They also found a hoodie that said ‘Police’.

McPherson said he got it from a man while working security.

Neighbors at the Enclave Apartment Homes said the man who lives at McPherson’s listed address is the complex’s security guard.

A woman who did not want to be identified said, “That young man does the security around here. I’ve never had a problem. I’ve never had a problem with him, but he’s supposed to be property security.”

A man in the Enclave’s leasing office said McPherson did not work there.

When WREG asked if McPherson was the complex’s security guard, the man said to ask police.

Police said that information is not available.

They have not arrested a second suspect.
