MEMPHIS, TENN. — It’s a Mother’s Day, unfortunately, one mother will never forget as she mourns the death of her son.
Police say a man was shot in killed in the Greenbrook at Shelby Park Apartments in northeast Memphis.
His mother identifies him at 23-year-old Ramon Davis Jr. She believes he was killed trying to save his sister.
“When I got there, I just seen my son in the ambulance with his head to the side, and they was pumping his chest,” Latarsha Jackson, victim’s mother, said.
It’s a sight no mother ever wants to see, her child fighting for their life.
“And my daughter said my son was laying there saying he feel like he’s going to die,” said Jackson.
Jackson said he leaves behind a baby girl just shy of one-year-old.
“He was the oldest of my children. And all he was doing last night was protecting his little sister,” Jackson said.
Memphis Police have not said what led to the shooting, but Jackson believes it all happened after an argument between Davis’ sister and her roommate. She said the roommate and the roommate’s mother got into a physical altercation with her daughter, and Davis was trying to break up the fight.
However, Jackson said things turned deadly once a man familiar with the roommate was called.
“They said the man came to the apartment with his gun out, already out, and shot my son in his neck, his chest, and his side,” Jackson said.
Neighbors also said they recalled hearing three gunshots. Police have not confirmed this information but told WREG someone was detained. They did not say if any charges have been filed.
Jackson told WREG-TV that’s not good enough, and she wants justice for her son.
“I want them to get time. Not an assault. I want them to get what they deserve because my son did not deserve to die,” Jackson said.
