MPD officer arrested on domestic assault charges

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An Memphis Police officer is behind bars after Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies said she had an altercation with her son earlier this month.

Deputies said detective Laura Prins-Harris argued with a neighbor, after her husband said her son went missing all day, and was later found at the neighbors house.

Mario Harris said his wife should not be facing jail time.

Deputies claimed she punched her 17-year-old son in the face almost three weeks ago on Summer Meadows Lane in Arlington.

Her husband told WREG his stepson and the witness listed in the report are lying.

He claimed he and another neighbor saw everything unfold, but their statements are not listed in the report.

Prins-Harris, a 17 year veteran, was relieved of duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

The state Department of Children’s Services removed the teenager from the home and placed him with his biological father.

Prins-Harris is out of jail.  She’s charged with two counts of domestic assault-bodily harm and is expected to be in court on Monday.
