MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis police officer slapped a suspect after he was threatened multiple times.
Early Saturday morning, officers were posted near Handy Park on Beale Street when an altercation occurred between two groups of men.Police broke it up and told everyone to leave Beale Street, but two men — Josh Hollie and James Black — continued to cause trouble, they said.
Hollie reportedly began shouting death threats at the officers.
As they were escorting them off the iconic street, police said the two men disobeyed their orders when they stopped outside Coyote Ugly to talk to another group.
As they were being taken into custody, Hollie reportedly continued to threaten officers and even tried to kick one of them.
According to the police report, that’s when the officer slapped him. The threats continued.
Both men were charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
Hollie was also charged with civil rights intimidation.
