MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Another pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Memphis. This time, she was a mother of two.
A woman was hit and killed on Saturday night while crossing Jackson Avenue in Nutbush. According to MPD, officers responded to a hit-and-run crash just before 9 p.m. at Jackson Avenue and Orchi Road.
When they arrived, they found the victim dead on the scene. Police identified her as Carey Snavely. Wendy Zuniga is one of her family members and she said they were together shortly before she died.
“I just went around the store to get some change for the restaurant, next thing I know I come back and she is laying in the middle of the road,” Zuniga said.
Police said the person that hit Snavely never attempted to stop or render aid. Wendy Zuniga who works at 7 Mare’s Bar and Grill near where the accident happened said she often seed drivers speeding down that road.
“I see cars just coming down here 900 miles per hour right through the light. They don’t even have their headlights on,” Zuniga said.
She says Snavely was hit so hard she was dragged several yards. She also said she was in such bad shape after impact police had to use fingerprints to positively identify her. Now she is just hoping to find some way to get her body back to Michigan so her family can lay her to rest.
“They don’t know how they are going to bury her and she needs all the help she can get to get her back to Michigan,” Zuniga said.
Zuniga said she is currently trying to raise the money. Police have not released a description of the vehicle.
