MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A new study suggests Mississippi and Tennessee are among the best states for doctors.
In order to come up with the list WalletHub compared each state in two main categories: “Opportunity and Competition” and “Medical Quality.”
They then looked at 11 separate metrics including a physicians’ mean annual wage, number of hospitals in the state, population size, malpractice payouts per capita, and competition.
All of those scores added together resulting in the rankings.
Mississippi topped the list with a total score of 70.07, while Tennessee came in at number 9 with a score of 64.59.
Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, Idaho, Texas, Kanasas, Wisconsin and Alabama rounded out the top 10.
States doctors should probably avoid include Washington D.C., New York, Rhode Island, Maryland, Connecticut, and New Jersey.
