Murder charges filed after Whitehaven 14-year-old shot in the head

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man has been charged in a deadly shooting that left a 14-year-old girl dead in Whitehaven.

During a news conference, police said Dominique Holman was known to the family of Gabby Harris, but she was not his intended target the night he opened fire on her Lydgate Road home in early January.

Authorities said while they didn’t receive any tips from Crime Stoppers, they interviewed multiple witnesses and followed numerous leads before identifying Holman as the person responsible. He was taken into custody by the Violent Crimes Unit Thursday.

Holman reportedly confessed to the crime and said he did it out of anger after one of Harris’ relatives threatened to put his personal information on social media. He obtained a gun, went to the Whitehaven home and opened fire.

Harris was washing dishes when she was struck. She died in her mother’s arms.

“She came around the corner holding her head, and she said ‘Mom, something hit me in my head.’ She let her hand go, and it was just blood streaming down.”

“I was rocking her, and she was hugging me and trying to breath. She kept trying to hug me.”

Eighteen days later, Holman was charged with first -degree murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun.

WREG looked into his background and discovered  he was on probation at the time of the shooting in connection to an aggravated burglary and theft case.

He is scheduled to appear in court next week.
