MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested a man on Monday who was wanted for killing another man in Frayser.
According to the agency, Darunn Turner was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder after he shot up a home on Frayser Circle Friday night, killing Marcus Powell. Soon after, officers posted a warrant for his arrest.
On Monday, Turner turned himself in at the West Memphis Police Department. He was then taken to the Shelby County Jail.
According to police records, it all started when Turner’s 14-year-old son was dropped off at the home crying. The child’s mother asked what was wrong to which the boy replied that Turner was mad at him for losing a necklace. The boy said Turner had pushed and choked him.
The mother and another person confronted Turner and that’s when Turner allegedly drove away angry. Minutes later, they said he returned, rolled down his window and shot several times. Bullets hit the woman’s leg and also struck her niece’s boyfriend, 20-year-old Powell. He died at the hospital.
There were reportedly three children and other loved ones inside the house at the time.
This isn’t the first time Turner has been in trouble with the law. His rap sheet in Shelby County dates back to 2000 and includes aggravated criminal trespass, misdemeanor assault, vandalism and theft. Some crimes link victims to West Memphis, as well as the bluff city.
