Murdered child’s family planning funeral and demanding justice

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The family of 7-year-old Kirsten Williams said they are planning her funeral as they wait for her killer to be found by Memphis police.

“I just collapsed,” Teresa Davis, Williams’ grandmother, said.

It was still tough for Davis to believe her granddaughter is gone.

“I’m just asking God to, you know, every day to make me stronger, but that — my life was interrupted,” Davis explained.

Kirsten’s life was ended by gunfire after she was shot and killed in a friend’s front yard last Friday.

Davis said she had cried every day since the shooting.

“We all do. My family — we’re grieving,” Davis said.

On Tuesday, Davis picked out her favorite pictures and helped plan Kirsten’s funeral.

They said Kirsten will likely wear purple at the funeral because it was her favorite color.

The little girl’s friends and classmates  also expected to read a dedication at the funeral service they told WREG.

The said they want to remember the good times.

“My last days were good memories of her,” Davis remembered.

However, the family was still trying to come to grips with the reality that the person who killed little Kirsten is still out there on the streets.

“Why would anybody take a child’s life? This has to stop,” Davis said.

Memphis Police officers said they are following up on leads, but Kirsten’s grandmother had a message for the person responsible.

“I want whoever did this — I don’t even see how you can sleep or eat. I want you to come forth,” Davis demanded.

The family said the heinous crime has changed their lives forever.

“One bullet changes so many lives. And it’s so hard to pick up the pieces. We can’t just pick up the pieces and pretend this didn’t happen,” Debbie Davis, Kirsten’s great aunt, said.

Kirsten’s funeral will be at Soul Winners Church in Hickory Hill on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
