Myron Lowery will not seek reelection

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Thursday, Myron Lowery announced he will not seek reelection to the Memphis City Council.

Lowery’s political career began in 1991.

Since then, he has served on the Memphis City Council, the Memphis Charter Commission and as the interim mayor of Memphis.

Lowery said he will continue to serve the bluff city  in any way he can.

There is talk Lowery’s son will run for his office.

Lowery released the following statement:

“I would like to thank the citizens of Memphis for electing me seven times; allowing me to serve as an elected official of this great city for twenty-four years,” Lowery said in a written statement. “I am extremely proud of the accomplishments we have made and even though we have challenges in our future, I still believe that our brightest days are ahead of us.”
