NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Nashville woman was arrested and charged in the suffocation death of her 7-month-old baby on Thursday.
According to News Channel 5, 23-year-old Jennifer Manuel was discharged from the psych unit of a Nashville hospital and immediately taken into custody by Metro Police.
Manuel’s husband, Kenneth Laizure was arrested back on May 21 and has been in custody ever since.
On May 19, investigators said the couple placed their son, Constantine, in his carrier, and then forced a pillow and blanket between the child’s face and the handle of the carrier.
The child was left in this position for more than an hour.
When first responders found him, he had bruises all over his body and was in cardiac arrest.
The medical examiner later discovered the boy had fractured ribs “in various stages of healing”.
The couple told police they were just trying to stop the little boy from crying.
To make the story even more gut wrenching, the couple was already being investigated for abusing their 3-year-old daughter who was found severely malnourished.
She was picked up by the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.
They were charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
