CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Trees are down, power went out and classes at the high school were canceled due to the storm that rolled through Crockett County Tuesday.

The National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday that storm included a tornado.

It was an EF-1 tornado, according to the NWS. The track was 3 to 3.5 miles long and about 75 yards wide.

Authorities said several witnesses spotted a funnel cloud moving across Highway 412.

Lt. Roy Moiser with the Crockett County Sheriff’s department said the damage was consistent with a tornado, saying that it appeared to move in a straight line carving out damage but skipping over some areas.

Mosier told WREG the concrete stadium seating at the  high school was picked up and moved several inches by the storm.

He added that the vocational studies building was flooded on the second floor, and the roof was ripped off.

The middle school nearby was spared.

Several homes surrounding the high school received significant damage; there were light poles down and crews worked for hours to restore power to the area.

Drivers were stunned when a truck driver, who was trying to beat the storm, was pushed off Highway 412.
