(Munford, TN) A meth lab in a Munford neighborhood caught people off guard, especially since there were two children living in the home, and one was in a wheelchair.
“I never saw [any signs],” said Ruth McClain.
She lives behind the home on Charles Avenue where deputies busted a meth lab.
“I didn’t see any signs. I am very surprised over what happened.”
David Phillips and his daughter, Shannon Lewis, are charged with having and making meth and exposing children to it.
WREG is told Lewis’s two kids lived in the home, and her 15-year-old daughter has special needs.
Apparently Lewis made several pseudoephedrine purchases in the last four months. It’s one of the main components in meth.
Deputies were alerted and said when they searched the home Wednesday, they found two active meth labs, chemicals used to make the stuff and drugs inside Lewis’s purse.
Neighbors said Lewis and Phillips were living in a rental home.
“I don’t know the family that well. I would just drive by and wave to them occasionally. That’s it,” said neighbor John Landsittel.
The Department of Child Services took the kids to a family member’s home, and doctors are evaluating them to make sure the drugs didn’t do any damage.
In the meantime, neighbors said they are going to be more alert.
They said this is the second meth lab they’ve found in the neighborhood.
“I guess we need to keep our eyes open and be more observant, but I hate to be nosey too,” said Landsittel.
Lewis and Phillips are being held on a $10,000 bond.
They are due in court on June 3.
