MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Neighbors in one Raleigh community would not dare drive fast down Addington Drive at night.
“At night you can’t see nothing. I’m talking about nothing,” Kenneth Mitchell said.
Mitchell said the street lights have not worked in nearly one month.
“It’s bad,” he said. “I get off at 3 o’clock at night. I have to turn my high beams on just to get in the driveway.”
People who live on the block rely on lit carports and their pets to keep them safe.
“You don’t know when you can expect somebody to come up behind you and try to take your stuff from you, or rob you, or anything,” Mitchell said.
One of the biggest concerns with not having lights at night on the block is a large blighted property with towering weeds.
“Anything can go on over there. You can’t see over there,” Anthony Latham said. “At nighttime it’s pitch black over there also.”
Folks told WREG they called MLGW for help.
“My wife has been calling for the last two or three weeks,” Mitchell said. “She called every other day. You know they give her the runaround. They don’t tell her nothing about coming out here or nothing.”
MLGW is aware the lights are off but believes the issue is underground, which usually takes about one month to rectify.
A spokesperson said workers are now scheduled to go to the area to fix the issue next week.
“The quicker they can do something about it, the better off we would be around here,” Latham said.
