MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Neighbors said they had no reason to believe anything suspicious was going on in their neighborhood.
That`s why they were shocked to come outside to find several officers on their street.
“We seen two police cars and then it looked like there was like four other undercover type cars,” said Robert Castile.
Castile said seeing that outside his home seemed strange.
It’s something he said they don’t see too often in his quiet neighborhood near Raleigh LaGrange and Goodlett Farms Parkway.
Court documents showed a nurse told officers she came to a home in the 900 block of Hunters Point Drive on Monday to check on an abuse and neglect complaint.
The nurse said she found someone sitting in a chair covered with feces
She told deputies the victim had sores and bruises all over his body.
“I have never seen anyone that appears to have a sign of, ‘I need help,'” said neighbor Chandranita Anton.
The nurse also told officers when she came back the next day, she noticed two people locked in their room with a black bungee cord around the door knob.
“It’s really surprising to hear about this in this neighborhood. Totally unheard of really,” said a neighbor.
Documents showed Clarence Humphreys admitted to being the caretaker and locking the patients in their rooms.
