MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Some neighbors in the Foote Homes area were uncertain Wednesday about the future of a proposed child care center, not far from FedEx Forum.
There was a “For Sale” sign in place of where a public notice was last summer.
That notice stated the property could be rezoned for a child care center.
“When I saw it, it was just like it was something important, but it wasn’t too important, because they weren’t just trying to put too much into it,” said Anthony Neal who lives across the street.
Neighbors told WREG the sign was about it.
When neither cranes nor builders arrived on the property, people said they stopped paying attention.
Last summer, talk circulated that the facility would prioritize affordability.
It would be close to Downtown.
City documents revealed it could serve up to 300 kids.
Last summer, it appeared the man who runs Bright Beginnings in Whitehaven was developing the new daycare.
The Office of Planning and Development said it has not received a Final Site Plan from developers after it received initial zoning approval.
They also said there were concerns to be worked out relating to the size of structures and their location on the property.
The company listed on the “For Sale” sign told WREG its listing is expired.
It is unclear what the owners plan to do.
People in the neighborhood said they would like to see someone follow through with the idea for a daycare.
“There’s a lot of children over here,” said neighbor Ricky Miller.
“They’ve got to put a lot of stuff into it to make things happen,” Neal said.
There is a building next door to the property that offers outreach to youth.
