New Amtrak stop coming to Quitman County

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — After being without a convenient passenger rail stop for 20 years, Quitman County will soon have a permanent Amtrak stop.

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss) announced a deal reached among Quitman County officials, Amtrak, and Canadian National Railway for a permanent stop in Marks.

The new route will mean that nearly 200,000 residents living in nine counties in the north Delta will have access to passenger rail.

The push to get an Amtrak flag stop in the area began in 1995 after the train station in Batesville closed.
