MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In three weeks, the high school football season kicks off around the Mid-South. Friday, the preparations continued with a number of scrimmages around the Bluff City, including one at Christian Brothers High School between the Brothers and Ridgeway High School.

The Purple Wave is still learning under new head coach Thomas McDaniel.

McDaniel, from Bartlett, stepped in for Scott Vogel after leading Oakland High School to seven straight playoff appearances in his seven seasons in Murfreesboro.

“The seniors have really bought in, considering that this is the third head coach they’ve had in four years,” McDaniel said. “Our seniors have really made an effort to trust me, and that’s not easy to do. I trust in the plan that we’ve tried to develop, they understand what I want to get accomplished, and they’re going to help me fulfill that.”

“I want us to play physical, I want to have fun, but I want us to have a certain mentality, and we got to develop that toughness and that edge, and I think we’re doing so, but time will tell.”
