(Memphis) A familiar airline is making a return to the Mid-South.
Frontier Airlines says it will be taking-off from Memphis International Airport starting in March.
It might sound like lower fares are on the horizon, but not so fast — Frontier is bring a low fare, but just to one city.
Frontier’s home base is Denver, Colo., and that’s the only place the airline will offer flights to and from Memphis.
They say Rome wasn’t built in a day, and Memphis International still has a way to go.
“Honestly, it’s getting pretty outrageous with the ticket prices,” said Ole Miss Student and Shooter Olivia Yeager.
“Because there’s not enough competition between the airlines,” said Valerie Booth, the Ole Miss Rifle Team Coach who is flying with the team to Alaska.
Frontier Airlines is offering hope.
“This is an example of that, yes,” said Larry Cox, Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority.
Starting March 7, Frontier will offer direct flights to Denver four times a week and if you buy tickets online by October 12, they are only $69 each way.
“I don`t think anybody can beat that,” said Greg Aretakis, the vice president of network and revenue with Frontier Airlines.
Since Delta rapidly pulled planes out of Memphis, people have wanted options and more flights.
While Frontier is only offering travel to Denver, it has 12 connection flights to cities on the west coast like San Francisco, Seattle, and Las Vegas.
“You can make a connection there to all these destinations in the West much cheaper than you can on the traditional air carriers,” said Cox.
Members of the Ole Miss Rifle Team are happy with the announcement.
“That will be fantastic,” said Coach Booth.
The team spends thousands of dollars flying to Denver three times a year for competitions and would love to score plane tickets at 69 bucks.
“That would be great because we fly to Colorado all the time and normally a round-trip ticket to Colorado is around $400 or $500 for us,” said Yeager.
“Wow. That’s a big deal,” said Reporter Sabrina Hall.
“It is,” said Yeager.
If you don’t book your flight before October 12th, it looks like flights will be around $110.
