MEMPHIS, Tenn. — There are new details in the One Beale Project expected to bring hundreds of jobs and have a huge impact in Memphis.

Carlisle Corp. shared information at the Center City Revenue Finance Corporation meeting Tuesday morning.

The One Beale project is expected to take anywhere from 24 to 30 months to complete.

Right now there’s an empty lot, but the goal is to build at the corner of Beale Street and Riverside Drive and get the project underway by 2016.

The proposed project means more jobs, both long- and short-term positions.

Carlisle Corp. is heading One Beale. Chase Carlisle says the two-tower project will include 280 apartments, 300 hotel rooms, and retail, meeting and office space.

“Then you start talking about a hotel full service with conference and meeting space and you’re talking about creating several hundred long term jobs and we’re talking about an internationally branded hotel, there’s real career opportunities,” he said.

The company isn’t saying the name of the hotel at this time because this project is still in the early stages, but expects the jobs to have a lasting impact.

“There’s an opportunity to create 1,500 direct and indirect short-term jobs with wages totaling about $72 million,” Carlisle said.

Paul Morris, the president of the Downtown Memphis Commission, says the project will have a huge impact on the skyline, too.

“If you look at our skyline, it’s been virtually the same for a long time, and this project would add an additional element to our skyline, it would be modern and say to the world, not only do we have great character, but we also have new buildings and we’re growing toward the future,” he said.
