New K-9 team sniffs out accelerants for state bomb & arson team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. —  The Tennessee State Marshal’s Office welcomed two new colleagues to their ranks recently.

Special Agent Michael Zimmermann and his K-9, a 1-year-old golden retriever named Scooter, recently completed training courses and became the newest accelerant detection duo to join the state bomb and arson team.

The Deputy Commissioner of the Department said the dog’s keen sense of smell will be used to help determine if a fire was set with an ignitable liquid.

When off duty, Scooter will live with Zimmerman’s family in Middle Tennessee.

“I’m honored to be working with Scooter,” he said. “She’s a great partner, and we immediately connected. She’s going to be a tremendous asset to the Bomb and Arson Section and the entire State of Tennessee.”

Scooter was provided to the office through an agreement with the ATF.
