RIPLEY, Tenn. — A car hit a school bus in Ripley, sending both vehicles down an embankment.
It happened at Main Street and Monroe Street.
According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the driver of a 1997 GMC Yukon was driving down Main Street when it traveled onto the shoulder of the road. The driver over corrected to avoid a mailbox and hit the bus, forcing it off the road and into an embankment.
Thankfully, none of the three children on the bus were hurt, though they were checked out at the Lauderdale County Community Hospital, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The children were released to their parents.
The bus driver and the bus monitor were not injured, but the driver of the Yukon had to be transported to the hospital. He was released with only minor injuries.
Authorities said that driver had been drinking at the time of the crash. He is facing charges including DUI, implied consent, driving without insurance, due care and a seat belt violation.
