MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A North Memphis store is set to close after a clerk shot a teen last week, according to a store employee.
Dorian Harris, 17, was laid to rest Saturday after police say Anwar Ghazali, a clerk at the Top Stop Shop, fatally shot him — allegedly over a stolen can of beer.
Police had to put a mobile SkyCop camera outside the store after activists and members of Harris’ family protested Monday calling for the store to close.
Approached Saturday, a store employee said the store is for sale, but WREG was unable to locate the store’s owner to confirm.
Activists reacted positively to the news, but say it still isn’t enough.
“If they close this location, it`s still more stores that goes through the same thing. It just ain`t took it this far,” said Casio Montez.
Activists are planning a march to 201 Poplar on Monday.
