(Memphis) The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s case against a licensed practical nurse resulted in her arrest yesterday in Shelby County after she was indicted in the death of a dependent 3-year-old child who was under her care.
Demequa Bonds, 34, of Cordova, Tenn. was indicted by the Shelby County grand jury on August 6, 2013 on one count of reckless homicide.
In February of 2013, TBI received an allegation from an administrator with the West Tennessee Healthcare Facility that Bonds was criminally negligent in the death of 3-year-old Kayla Andrews.
Bonds was a licensed practical nurse employed by ‘Where The Heart Is, Inc.,’ a state certified home health care agency specializing in providing care to pediatric and ventilator dependent geriatric patients in Shelby, Tipton and Fayette Counties.
Andrews was a TennCare recipient who suffered from a medical condition that required her to receive 24 hour a day nursing care.
Andrews died in her Bartlett home after the negligent incident caused by Bonds occurred on August 27, 2012.
Bonds was booked into the Shelby County Jail and released on bond.
