Woman dead in drive-by shooting in Holly Springs

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. — Holly Springs Police confirmed they are on the scene of a deadly drive-by shooting Thursday afternoon.

Just after 5 p.m., police said a home near South Chesterman Street was shot at in a drive-by shooting.

One woman was killed in the shooting, police said. The victim’s identity has not been confirmed, but police said she was 23 years old.

The shooting actually happened at the victim’s home on Moss Avenue.

A neighbor who lives across the street said the chaos started when a man driving a silver car pulled up to the house and began arguing with the woman while she stood in her doorway.

He said the man got so angry that he started shooting at the house and hit the woman. He also said someone in or near the home returned fire, but he couldn’t see who it was.

“I was trying to duck down as far as I can,” he said.

He said the car drove off as a man on foot ran from the house.

The woman did not survive her gunshot wounds.

Police also said two other people were shot, but they’re conditions are unclear, and investigators haven’t said how they knew the 23-year-old.

“So young, so full of life with her whole life ahead of her to have her life cut down over something senseless,” Holly Springs Police Chief Dwight Harris said.

WREG  walked up to the house to see if a family member might be willing to talk with us, but a woman came up and respectfully asked us to leave.

But police aren’t leaving the suspects alone.

“We’re working on that,” Harris said. “We’re working on leads, and we’re optimistic that we’ll have these subjects in custody before long.”
